How do you choose the best diagnostic scanner
HOW TO SELECT THE BEST DIAGNOSTIC SCANNER
- Don't be impressed by a list of a number of vehicles ( it may hide an empty box ) or a summary of ECU references.
- Ask for a list of the operational systems ( for instance MP 5.2 of Peugeot, Bosch EDC 1663 (common rail), Lucas Epix ( diesel control), Siemens SID ( common rail ), etc.
ONLY THE NUMBER OF SYSTEMS DETERMINES THE QUALITY OF POSSIBLE COMMUNICATIONS WITH THE ECU'S
In the technical diagnostic language it is called protocol dialogs and their number confirùs the universality, the power and the possibilities of the scanner.
In technische diagnosetaal spreekt men van protocol dialogen en de hoeveelheid hiervan geeft de veelzijdigheid, de kracht en de mogelijkheden van het toestel aan.
Regarding the yealy software updates; it is not the number of updates that is important, but above all the quantity of added operational systems.
A good scanner has to be able to carry out at least the most essential tasks, but a protocol scanner has to get access to the comfort and related systems as well, such as;
Central locking Interior monitoring Communication system Xenon lights Comfort modules BSI, KBM, BCM Multiple information screens Air suspension Tyre pressure monitoring Cruise control Key programming |
Electric power steering Parking brake Wipers and washers Rain sensor Electric seats Electric contact Sun roof Licht module COM 2000 / 2003 Controller area network ( CAN ) Vehicle area network ( VAN ) Etc. |
